Robert Taylor

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was killed in action. His wife had heard from friends that he had died before she received official notification from the War Dept. Six months later while at the Broadway Theater in uptown Charlotte, she saw a quick glance of him in a foxhole on Iwo Jima. The manager of the Broadway, E. J. Norman, snipped the 2 negatives from the reel of film and had enlargements made for Mrs. Taylor. She wanted them for her young daughter, who had never seen her father. His memorial service was at the Hutchinson Ave. Baptist Church.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He went overseas on 11-2-1943. His plan crashed over the English Channel after completing a mission. Two of the engines had been shot out by the enemy. Burial was at Brookwood American Cemetery 30 miles southwest of London. A memorial service was planned at Calvary Methodist Church.
