The ship sunk 12 miles from land, but he was not one rescued. His memorial service was held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on 7/8/1945. His memorial service was held at the West Avenue Presbyterian Church on July 16, 1944, by his former pastor, Dr. W. W. Akers of Gastonia. His B-17 or Flying Fortress, where he served as navigator, was probably lost during attack on Brunswick, Germany, an aircraft parts manufacturing town. A memorial marker in his honor is in Ardennes, France.
