Thomas S. Franklin (1863-1926) [1]

Born in Raleigh on December 24, 1863 , Thomas Skinner Franklin was the son of an Englishman, and his mother was from Virginia. He came to Charlotte in 1880, and married Luella Lidell in 1891. Franklin owned his own insurance company and was active in local politics. It was Franklin who played an instrumental role in obtaining Carnegie funding for the Charlotte's first public library, which opened in 1903.
