The Southern Manufacturer's Club was a private men's club located on 300 West Trade Street. It was home to some of the most prominent business leaders and writers in Charlotte during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The lavish facility first opened in 1894. The Mint Museum of Art is located on Randolph Road. (The structure is the original United States Mint that once located on West Trade Street.) Located on Independence Boulevard, Ovens Auditorium and the first Charlotte Coliseum were completed in 1955. The auditorium was named for David Ovens, a longtime supporter of cultural events.
