Masonic Temple

Opening on October 11, 1921, the second Masonic Temple in Charlotte was designed by Willard Rogers in the Egyptian Revival style. Prior to its dismantling and demolition, after First Union purchased the property in 1987, it was the last example of Egyptian Revival architecture in North Carolina. The first Masonic Temple in Charlotte was located on South Tryon Street and the corner of Second Street. Built in 1913, at a cost of $122.750, the building was designed by Charles Christian Hook and Willard G. Rogers. J.A. Jones was the construction company.

Hezekiah Alexander House

The Hezekiah Alexander is the oldest home in Mecklenburg County. Made of stone and log timbers, it was built in 1774, Alexander was a prominent farmer and politician in the county. It is located off of Shamrock Road. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: Aerial Photography Services, Inc.

Mercy Hospital

Mercy Hospital was founded by the Sisters of Mercy of Belmont, North Carolina in February 1906. Originally it was a twenty-five bed facility in a wooden building on East First Street behind St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church. The second facility, pictured here, opened in 1916 on East Fifth Street. Additions increased and by 1960, the hospital had a capacity of 300 beds. Confederate Monument

The Confederate Monument in Charlotte is located in Elmwood Cemetery. It was built in 1887 by the Ladies Memorial Association.

YMCA Building (Second One) and Annex

Good Samaritan Hospital

Good Samaritan Hospital was built in 1888 with funds raised by St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Jane Wilkes was instrumental in establishing this medical facility. Carnegie Free Library

The Carnegie Free Library in Charlotte opened its doors in 1903. Located at 310 North Tryon Street. It was the city's first free public library.
