Barringer Hotel

 
The Barringer Hotel opened its doors on December 15, 1940 at 4425 North Tryon Street. Built by Laurence S. and his sister Flora Barringer, the hotel was named for their father, William Rufus Barringer. The latter owned a number of elegant hotels in the south. Today it is a Senior Citizens Residence Home and Center.

Sunnyside Rose Garden

The Sunnyside Rose Garden was planted in 1931 by the Charlotte Garden Club. At the time this postcard was taken, it contained 59 varieties of roses and 4,700 bushes. It was located on 7th Street. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: Genuine Curteich

Charlotte Memorial Hospital

Freedom Park

Elizabeth College

Elizabeth College operated in Charlotte from 1896 to 1915. It was located at the intersection of Hawthorne Lane and Elizabeth Avenue. Today the buildings are part of Presbyterian Hospital. Physical Description: 3x5 black and white Publisher: Rotograph Company

Charlotte Sanatorium

The Charlotte Sanatorium operated from 1907 to 1942. This 100 room, privately owned hospital was located at the southeast corner of Seventh and Church Streets. The building was later used for offices before being demolished in the mid-1950s. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: Curteichcolor
