The Commercial National Bank and American Trust Company Building were located in the 200 block of South Tryon Street. On the site of the bank building was the home where Confederate President Jefferson Davis stayed Charlotte from April 18 to the 25th. The Charlotte Country Club was incorporated in 1910 as the Mecklenburg Country Club, but changed its name in 1917. It is located in central Charlotte.

The Mayfair Hotel, now known as the Dunhill Hotel, is located at the corners of North Tryon and 6th Streets. Built by two local physicians, Dr. James Pleasant Mattheson and Dr. C.N. Peeler, the hotel opened its doors as the Mayfair Manor on November 15, 1929. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the hotel was designed by Louis Asbury. The Charlotte Municpal Airport opened in 1937 under the auspices of the city of Charlotte.
During World War II, the United States Army Airforce took over the management of the airport and established Morris Field Air Base in 1941. The airfield was used by the Third Airforce for antisubmarine patrols and training. After the war, a passenger terminal was added, and the airport was renamed the Douglas Municipal Airport in honor of Mayor Ben E. Douglas (1894-1981).
