Hotel Alexander

The Hotel Alexander was located on McDowell Street. During the 1940s, it was the only hotel in Charlotte that served Blacks. Celebrities stayed at the hotel. At one time, it was the center of social life in the Second Ward. Physical Description: Publisher: Unknown

Wachovia Bank

The Wachovia Bank and Trust is located on 129 West Trade Street. This fifteen-story tower was the first to use prismatic cast stone panels. Physical Description: 3x5 color Publisher: Unknown

Barringer Hotel

The Barringer Hotel opened its doors on December 15, 1940. Located at 425 North Tryon Street, it was built by Laurence S. and his sister, Flora Barringer. The hotel was named for their father, William Rufus Barringer, who was a former owner of a string of elegant hotels in the south. Central High School

Horner Military School

The Horner Military School was first founded in Oxford, North Carolina in 1851, but moved to Charlotte in 1914. In Charlotte, the school was built on Roswell Avenue in Myers Park by Colonel Jerome C. Queens College

William Phifer House

The home of William F. Phifer was located at 700 North Tryon Street. Reportedly, this is the site of the last full meeting of the Confederate Cabinet. That meeting was held on April 26, 1865. Physical Description: 3x5 Publisher: Asheville Postcard and Pennant Company
