Red Circle Soldiers Club for Black Troops in Charlotte

The Red Circle Club was  a place for black soldiers to congregate and relax away from Camp Greene, a World War I Cantonment Camp near Charlotte. Photo features three African American men, two soldiers and a civilian, standing in front of the club.

The Charlotte Symphony played its first concert March 20, 1931. Today it is a fine professional symprony orchestra, probably the oldest symphony orchestra in the South in continuous operation.

Claude Felix Biggers (1880 - 1937) was the manager of the A&P Grocery Store on South Church Street where the Charlotte News building was later built. - N.W. corner of Church and Fourth Street.
