Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was killed in action. His wife had heard from friends that he had died before she received official notification from the War Dept. Six months later while at the Broadway Theater in uptown Charlotte, she saw a quick glance of him in a foxhole on Iwo Jima. The manager of the Broadway, E. J. Norman, snipped the 2 negatives from the reel of film and had enlargements made for Mrs. Taylor. She wanted them for her young daughter, who had never seen her father. His memorial service was at the Hutchinson Ave. Baptist Church.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was killed by an enemy bullet, while crawling to his position on Hill 706 in Italy. He was buried overseas. His memorial service was held at Pritchard Memorial Baptist Church on 9-27-1944.

James Stilwell, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He went overseas on 11-2-1943. His plan crashed over the English Channel after completing a mission. Two of the engines had been shot out by the enemy. Burial was at Brookwood American Cemetery 30 miles southwest of London. A memorial service was planned at Calvary Methodist Church.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: His ship was sunk by the Japanese. Memorial service on Aug 12, 1943 at West Ave. Presbyterian Church. The 5 Sullivan brothers also served on the Juneau.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He had been in England since April, 1944 and had been engaged in many bombing missions over Berlin and numerous other European targets before he was killed in an airplane accident in England.

Milton Silvers

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was killed in the North Atlantic area when his plane crashed about three minutes after take-off. He was on a foreign ferrying mission and had frequently flown ferry command planes into Morris Field in Charlotte. He had completed 18 missions.
