The University of North Carolina at Charlotte was founded in 1946 and gained university status in 1965. It is located in northeast Charlotte.

Charlotte Mecklenburg Library (1956)

The second Charlotte Public Library opened its doors in 1956. Like the first library, it was located at 310 North Tryon Street. This building was replaced in 1988 with a modern facility on the same site. Physical Description: 3 x 5 postcard Publisher: Dexter Press

United States Federal Courthouse and Post Office in Charlotte

The Charles R. Jonas Federal Building is an historic two-story, limestone structure in the neo-classical design. Completed in 1915, it is located at 401 West Trade Street, in Charlotte. At various times it has served as a courthouse of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, and a United States post office. In 1975, the building was renamed in honor of long-serving North Carolina Congressman Charles R. Jonas, and was transferred to the city in exchange for land in the fall of 2005.

Festival in the Park at Freedom Park

Freedom Park is located off of East Boulevard in Myers Park. It opened in 1948 and was named in honor of Charlotte's World War II soldiers. Every September, the park is the site of Festival in the Park where artists display their wares and local bands perform for the thousands of attenders over a three day period.

Charlotte Country Club

Charlotte Country Club was founded in 1910 and is located four miles east of uptown Charlotte, in the historic Plaza-Midwood neighborhood.

The Hezekiah Alexander House is the oldest extant house in Charlotte. It is located off of Shamrock Drive near the Methodist Home.

Mint Museum of Art

The Mint Museum of Art is located on Randolph Road. (The structure is the original United States Mint that once located on West Trade Street.) It was moved to its current location sometime in the 1930s and opened in 1936 as an art museum. Today it houses great works of art.
