Elizabeth College dormitory room

Dormitory room at Elizabeth College, caption reads, `The Firm of Ike and Ike.`Elizabeth College was located on Hawthorne Road. It opened in 1896. This popular school for girls remained in Charlotte until 1915.

Old Osborne Corner

The northwest corner of the Square, the intersection of Trade and Tryon Streets, was once known as Old Osborne Corner. It was named for the Mrs. Osborne who owned a large amount of property in the uptown area. Physical Description: 35mm Negative Publisher: C. H. Robinson and Company

Streetcar and Bus

Men with a streetcar and a bus on the last day the streetcars went through Charlotte in May 1938. Duke Power operated both the street car and the bus system at that time.

John B. Ross House

The John B. Ross House is a wonderful example of Italian Revival architecture. Built between 1894 and 1896, it was at 502 North College Street, it was the home of the John B. Ross family. He was the president of the John B. Ross Company and vice-president of the First National Bank.

Carolina Theatre Staff

Ushers and Managers of the Carolina Theatre.The Carolina Theatre opened in 1927 on the corner of North Tryon and Sixth Streets. With a seating capacity of 1,800 and beautiful architectural and decorative features, it remained a popular entertaintment venue for many years. Today part of the theatre still stands and efforts are underway to restore the structure to its initial glory.
