A parade was held every year to celebrate Mecklenburg Declaration day. This photograph features the first building to house the Presbyterian Hospital. It was located on the second floor of the building. Notice the patients and nurses standing on the balcony. It was located on the corner of Mint and Trade Streets across from the Selwyn Hotel. Shriner's Parade of 1916

The first parade featuring the new Shriner's Band took place on February 8, 1916. The buildings along the 200 block of West Trade Street are visible. They include Smith's Bookstore at 215 West Trade Street, the Star Cafe at 229 West Trade Street, Climax Barber Shop and Pool Room at 215 West Trade Street, Fites Cash Grocer and Carolina Pawn and Loan Company at 217 West Trade Street.

Elizabeth College Students celebrate Washington's birthday on February 22, 1902.Elizabeth College was located on Hawthorne Road. It opened in 1896. This popular school for girls remained in Charlotte until 1915.
