He enlisted in Memphis, TN and went overseas on 7/23/1917. After serving in combat, he later taught in an aerial gunnery school in France. Morrison claimed his highest flying altitude was 3 1/2 miles. He experienced losing altitude of 12,000 feet and passed out. His seat belt broke, which enabled him to float away from the wreckage off the coast of France. He visited the hospital where the Charlotte unit was in Bordeaux, but he was not treated there for his injuries.
