He came to Charlotte about 1896 and was superintendent of the city water works. For 12 years he was an accountant. When his health declined 8 months before his death, he quit his job and community work. Williams spent some time in hospitals at Baltimore and in Charlotte to try to regain his health, but he died at age 50 of lip cancer. Williams is buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte. He served in both the Spanish-American War and WW I. His name appeared on the Service Flag on 9/22/1918 of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.
