In 1920 he was living with his in-laws John & Agnes Lee and his wife in Danville, VA. He had worked as a machinist prior to the war. His discharge papers describe him as having brown eyes, dark hair and complexion, and being 5'9' tall. He was AWOL from 12/16/17 - 1/20/18 and 10/15/18 - 3/26/19. He was given travel pay to Thrift, NC upon discharge. He reenlisted on July 22, 1919 in the Medical Department for 1 year.
