Biographical Notes: 
Reid had attended Davidson College for two years and left to work in Charlotte. He enlisted in the Marines at the same time as Joe Orr, the son of the postmaster of Matthews. Joe was killed a few weeks earlier than Reid.He participated in the battles of Chateau Thierry, Belleau Wood and Soissons. At the time of his death, his unit had left the trenches and had been fighting in open warfare. He died from wounds the day after his 22nd birthday.He is buried at Davidson College Cemetery.
