He was the first Charlotte boy to get to France. They built the largest railroad yards in the world at St. Nazaire, France and the 15,000 bed hospital at Savenay. They had dinner on the grounds of Buckingham Palace and were reviewed by King George. He was in Paris the day president Wilson came thru. He described it as the most beautiful city he had ever seen.His yearbook describes him as 5'10', 138 lbs, a member of the glee club, basketball, literary society, and drama club. He came to Charlotte from Louisville. His ambition was given as streetcar conductor and his class prophecy said he would go on to be a comedian.
