Biographical Notes: 
He died of meningitis after nursing a stricken comrade during the meningitis epidemic at Camp Jackson, SC. He was buried in Mooresville, NC.He was the first man from Davidson College to die in the war. While in school he participated in football, track and tennis. He was a candidate for the ministry, under the care of the Concord Presbytery.
