Biographical Notes:
Although Morris was from Cabarrus County, NC, he is included in his database because the airport in Mecklenburg County was renamed for him during World War II -'Morris Field.'Many people from Charlotte were disappointed in the Army's choice because Morris was not from Charlotte or Mecklenburg County. The name most favored was Sykes Field, after a local pilot who was shot down over Germany. Morris, who died in 1939, did not die a hero's death.
