He formerly managed the James A. Allison and Carl. G. Fisher racing team at the Indianpolis Speedway. While there, he held the world's record for fast wheel change for Johnny Aitken in 1916, held at Sheepshead Bay, in 13 seconds. His previous records was 15 seconds while he worked as a pit manager for Barney Oldfield Cincinnati Speedway races.
