He was in charge of the medical department of the 301st when the 27th and 30th divisions broke the Hindenburg line at Ronsay, France. Men were transported to the aid station in a Red Cross Ford, as the ambulance could not reach the front line. 'We sent back 55 men in the Ford box'. He and his family live in Whiteville, NC, though he is a native of West Mecklenburg.
