Biographical Notes: 
Was awarded his Purple Heart in 1946 at the VFW Post in Charlotte, 27 years after serving. It was awarded by Governor R. Gregg Cherry, who was formerly his company commander. On Sept 18, 1918 he was in the trenches near the Hindenburg Line when he was wounded by German machine gun fire.
