Biographical Notes: 
Smith left civilian life and enlisted in the army in Akron, Ohio. He left the U. S. on 7/23/1918 and returned on 8/1/1919. He was exposed to poison gas during the war and spent some years in VA hospitals. He had a 10% disability from the military. John C. Smith died in the 1970s and is buried in Coosa County, AL.
