Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He lost his life fighting the Japanese in the Battle of Santa Cruz. After being mortally wounded, young Scott told his shipmates: Keep those guns firing, mates! His last words, whispered to a shipmate, were for his parents: To have you and mother for these 24 years have been all that I could ask for in this world. His valor was featured in a book by William Ewing. Memorial marker at Fort McKinley in Manila, PI. A destroyer escort was named the Neal A. Scott in his honor.
