Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: In his autobiography, Evangelist Billy Graham wrote that during his youth, Julian was his best friend. He met his wife at Central High School and married her at Buckingham Air Force Base in Florida in May 1943. He entered the service with his brother, Rob, in Spartanburg, SC. Miller, along with Ned Potter of Duplin Co., NC, were killed, when their B-24D Liberator, crashed into the side of a mountain in New Guinea, after just minutes of being in the air. They were scheduled to have R & R in Australia the next day, but they volunteered to make one last bombing raid north of Hollandia. A memorial service was held in March 1944 at Sardis ARP. Memorial confederate book shelf started at Central High School.The Miller- Peoples Bible Class at Sardis Pres. Church is named for 2 members who died in service in WWII- Julian Miller, Jr. and Richard Preston Peoples.
