1995 - Million Man March

October 16, 1995 - The Million Man March takes place in Washington, D.C. Over 400,000 people gather in Washington D.C. to march.

  • Organized by Louis Farrakhan and Ben Chavis, the march calls public attention to the plight of the black man. 
  • Many Charlotte residents use the event to reaffirm their commitment to their community. 
  • Antoine X of Charlotte [1] says the Nation of Islam helped him put a life of crime behind him. He joined the movement while in jail in July of 1995.
  • Ahmad Daniels [2] leads a pledge at a rally before the Million Man March.
