1967 - Demolition of First Ward Begins

1967 - The Charlotte Redevelopment Authority begins the demolition of First Ward. Some residents move to traditionally black neighborhoods. Others move into Earle Village Homes [1], a new public housing facility built on the land that was cleared. Photo shows North McDowell Street in First Ward before demolition.
