Movies, Movies, Movies! [1]

The Carolina Theater [2] opened its doors in 1927. Located on the corner of Tryon and Sixth Streets, the theater seated 1800 spectators [3]. A Mediterranean motif, complete with antique Spanish furniture could be found throughout the theater [4] and brought an exotic glamour to Charlotte. These shots were taken during the theater's early years of operation. The theater closed to the public in the 1970s. Construction began on a restored theater within a larger residential project at the same site in 2017.
