Doughboys and Camp Greene: Image Galleries [1]

Personal cameras were very rare during World War I. According to a newspaper account from The Charlotte Observer on January 28, 1934, professional photographers flocked to Charlotte during World War I. They set up shop in stores, tents and even a residence to capture the pictures of the era.

Images of Camp Greene are grouped under four headings:

Images - [2]documents, menus, newspaper clippings, and objects  that were part of camp life.

Panoramic Photos [3] - often by a husband-and-wife team of  Charlotte photographers - the Moons - showing groups of soldiers

Photographs [4] - photographed by Philip A . Sheaff of the Medical Corps and by Charlotte civilians.

Postcards - [5] images of Camp Greene and views of Germany from the time of World War I.
