Biographical Notes:
Although Miss Grier never entered the military, her contributions to the soldiers in the hospital at Camp Greene were invaluable. They patients called her 'Mother' because she wrote hundreds of letters to their loved ones back home. She shopped for them, read to them and advised them. Her listening ear was a source for comfort for them. Her daily visits started in October 1917. Even when it rained, she wore rubber boots to reach the patients. During the quarantine period her visits did not cease. Her daily source of comfort to the soldiers ill and far away from home was her contribution to the war effort. This photo was taken in front of the rear stairs to Ward C-6.
