He was at Camp Green in the spring of 1918 and went to France in August of 1918. While at Camp Greene, he shared responsibilities for the big Q. M. auto repair shop, located near the old 59th Inf. camp, which was used by the Motor Macs. He was a casual officer and got to return to America before the rest of his company. He was detached from his regiment and put in charge of an aeroplane factory.He sailed from Versailles but was delayed from getting to America by one week due to a storm. He was a very popular officer while at Camp Green and was 'valued by his higher officers as man and soldier.' His name appeared on the Service Flag on 9/22/1918 of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC.
