He was lured to Cleveland, Ohio by his brothers and the promise of great job opportunities. He took a job at White Company, a car and truck manufacturer.He was drafted in Cleveland, Ohio. His service papers describe him as gray eyes, light brown hair, a fair complexion and was 5 feet 4.5 inches in height. He was discharged on April 18, 1919.After the war he returned to work at the White Co. He met his wife while working as a traveling service representative. After their marriage, he transferred to Charlotte.He is buried at Sharon Memorial Cemetery.
