He died at at Camp Greene and was buried on January 20, 1918 at age 30. He was buried in Elmwood in the 'Soldier's Lot' because his family never claimed his body. The local War Mothers and American Legion Auxiliary arranged to have a military headstone, which was plced on 5/30/1928, made from Georgia marble. He was from Earl, Arkansas.
