McIntyre's Farm

When General Cornwallis invaded Mecklenburg County in 1780, a number of skirmishes between the local rebels and the British troops took place. The Battle of McIntyre's Farm took place on October 3, 1780. The log farmhouse was located on Beatties Ford Road. Cornwallis and his forces withdrew from Mecklenburg County on October 12, 1780. This image was made on April 25, 1934.

Zebulon Vance House

The Charlotte residence of Zebulon B. Vance (1830-1894), served as twice as Governor of North Carolina (1862-1865) and (1877-1879) and later as United States Senator from North Carolina (1879-1894). After his first term as Governor, Vance, a native of Buncombe County, settled in Charlotte and practiced law.

Charlotte Signers Monument

The monument of the Signers of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence at its original location at the corner of South Tryon and Third Streets in front of the courthouse. It was later moved in front of another courthouse at 700 East Trade Street.
