Carolina Theater Women's Lounge

The lounge or sitting area designated for women was designed to create an atmosphere of both comfort and elegance. The Carolina Theatre opened in 1927 on the corner of North Tryon and Sixth Streets. With a seating capacity of 1,800 and beautiful architectural and decorative features, it remained popular entertaintment venue for many years. Today part of the theatre still stands and efforts are underway to restore the structure to its initial glory.

Ratcliffe Florist (1940)

The Ratcliffe Florist at 431 South Tryon Street began operations in 1929 when Louis Ratcliffe started the business.  This wonderful example of Mediterranean Revival style was designed by William H. Peeps (1868-1950). Physical Description: negatives only Publisher:

John B. Ross House

The John B. Ross House is a wonderful example of Italian Revival architecture.  at Once located at 502 North College Street, the home was built it between 1894 and 1896.  John B. Ross (1852-1933) was the president of the John B. Ross Company and vice-president of the First National Bank.
