Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: Gravely wounded by mortar fire on Feb 19 on Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima. Died a week later aboard a hospital ship. Burial in the 5th Marine Division Cemetery at the foot of Mt. Suribachi. Memorial service at Indian Trail Methodist Church in May, 1948. Newprint says internment at Sharon Memorial Park.

German Govt informed Red Cross that he was dead. A memorial service was held on 11-18-1945 at the Duncan Memorial Methodist Church in Charlotte. His brother Robert was killed in France in 1944.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He and 5 other paratroopers in Company I fought for 33 days without relief or replacement in Normandy. His mother reported that he was killed in the Battle of the Belgium Bulge. Paratroopers had jumped into a spot a day or so early to scout. They set up camp in an abandoned house. Neil was hit in the head by shrapnel. He was unconscious for 3 days before dying. He was buried in Belgium, and his grave was adopted by a local Belgium girl. A memorial service was held at the Tenth Avenue Presbyterian Church in Charlotte on 3-11-1945.
