John Higgins, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: This pilot from South Somerset, MA, was killed at 3 pm., while on a routine training flight. His A-20 went down near the Piedmont & Northern Railroad Co. tracks about 10 miles west of Morris Field. He was alone in the plane, which burned after the crash.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: Died of rheumatic fever on May 23 in the Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA. Buried in Lebanon, KY on May 30.

James Harris

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was the youngest of 13 children and the first death to occur among his siblings. He was killed in action on Ie Shima Island. Writer Ernie Pyle died here last month. His body was returned to the US in 1949, and he is buried in Six Mile Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was sent to the European area on February 15, 1945. He had been previously reported as missing in action and was later determined to have been killed in action. He died from shell fragment wounds received in battle near Wissen, Germany. Buried in Plot KK, row 9, grave 204 in Margraten Cemetery in the Netherlands.
