Clement Manley Llewellyn (1895 - 1969)

                        
 
 
Manley Llewellyn’s involvement with baseball began long before the establishment of the “Outlaw League.” At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Llewellyn was an outstanding pitcher and went on to play for the New York Yankees in 1922. Sent back down to the minors, Llewellyn kicked around with teams up north before returning to and playing ball for the Kannapolis Towelers. He went onto manage the team and work in the front office. When Llewellyn was not consumed with baseball, he was elected judge of Cabarrus County. After the Carolina League folded, it was Llewellyn who brought the Outlaw teams back to the auspices of organized baseball with the Class “D” North Carolina State League. He went on to become President of the Class “D” North Carolina State League 1939- 1946 and the Class “B” Tri-State League (1947-1950).
