In 1841, the Federal Government published A Census of Pensioners for Revolutionary or Military Services, giving the names, ages, and places of residence of persons entitled to pensions on the basis of their service in the Revolutionary War or other conflicts. The list included 22 names for Mecklenburg County. (Mecklenburg in 1841 still included the territory that in 1842 would become part of Union County.) The names are given below:

  • Major Thomas Alexander, age 87
  • Andrew Berry, age 81
  • Thomas Barnet, age 80
  • Jeremiah Clontz, age 85, living in the household of John Clontz
  • Harry Emerson, age 84
  • Hugh Forbus, age 83
  • Gabriel Ferrel, age 85
  • John Gardner, age 81
  • Samuel Givens, age 77
  • Richard Griffin, age 80
  • John Hoagland, age 78 [The printed source gives the last name as "Horfland," but the original census report and other printed sources confirm "Hoagland."]
  • Robert Huddleston, age 79
  • James Knox, age 81
  • Robert Kerr, age 89
  • George Kiker, age 87
  • Michael McLeary, age 77
  • George McWhorter, age 79
  • William Pyrow [sic], age 84 [Original census report has "Tyson," possibly. "William Thompson" appears on the 1835 pension list.]
  • Samuel Wilson, age 91
  • Andrew Walker, age 84
  • Jephtha Yarborough, age 42
