Jo Davidson, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was on his way to North Africa, when his plane crashed in French Guaina in February, 1943. He was buried there. After the war, his body was moved in May, 1948, to the Rural Hill Cemetery, the Davidson Family burying ground in the Hopewell area of Mecklenburg Co.

Martin Crawford

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was found hanging in an apartment that he shared with another officer. The police homicide squad investigated the case. His promotion to Major was announced the day after his body was found. His funeral was on 7-15-1945 at Harry and Bryant Chapel. Burial was at Elmwood Cemetery in Charlotte.

Charles Butt, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: Killed in action in Germany.

William Carpenter, Jr.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He was captured crossing the Rapido River on the night of January 23, 1944. He was believed to have died as a prisoner of war, while moving to another camp. He had previously been in Stalag 2-B in Hammerstein, near Koslin. He and others were hit by American fighter pilots who mistook the prisoners of war, who were walking on the highway, for German soldiers. His remains are interred in the U.S. Military Cemetery Neuville-en-Condro, plot 1, row 11, grave 275. This cemetery is located 9 miles southwest of Liege, Belgium.

Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: He had been overseas for five months. A memorial service was held at Chalmers Memorial ARP on 6-3-1945.
