Death Details/Burial/Memorial Services: His tank had been hit twice and was on fire. He ordered his comrades to evacuate, but he stayed behind to operate the guns to cover their escape. He was originally listed as missing in action but never returned to the hero's welcome he deserved. On May 14, 1943, a citation from General Eisenhower and the Distinguished Service Cross were presented to his father at Central High School. There were local and military dignitaries, representatives from V.M.I, the entire Central High student body as well as a band in attendance for the ceremony. Memorial marker in North Africa.
