His name appeared on the Service Flag on 9/22/1918 of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, NC. His file includes many letters to Ruth Robinson of Charlotte. In a February, 1919 letter he describes how they would serve 100-150 gallons of chocolate to the men in the field each day. He had lost all of his fatness since exposed to the weather and manual labor. He was at a camp with 50,000 or more men coming thru and often saw Charlotte boys.
