On October 27th, 1918, near Bois de Begue, while under heavy machine-gun fire, he salvaged enemy wire that was used to establish telephone lines to the front. He received a commendation.He is listed on a Feb. 11, 1919 casualty list as wounded.<NR>He was from North Charlotte. His family had moved to Charlotte in about 1912.Funeral at First Baptist Church, with burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
