In the year 2010, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library went through its greatest funding crisis since 1939-40, when it was obliged to close for a year during the Great Depression.

Library wins national recognition

The library system of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County had always grown and diversified to reach the citizens of Mecklenburg wherever they lived, including in electronic communities.

Library of the Future: 1989-1999

Regional Branches - In the 1990s, the library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, worked to keep up with growth in the population of the county. To meet the demands of more people in more places the library system built large facilities recognized by the state as Regional Branches.
