Born in Chester, South Carolina, Samuel S. McNinch was living in Charlotte by 1880 and eventually became President of the Charlotte Brick Company. He and his wife Julia McNinch resided at 507 North Church Street. The house now serves as a restaurant.

Handsome Homes, Charlotte, North Carolina, R. M. Miller and C. W. Tillett. Robert M. Miller was the president of the Elizabeth Mills and Millerton Homes Company and the Secretary-Treasurer of the Buford Hotel. His home was located at 406 North Tryon Street. Charles W.
The Hotel Alexander was located on McDowell Street. During the 1940s, it was the only hotel in Charlotte that served Blacks. Celebrities stayed at the hotel.
