People are the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Story. Queen Charlotte gave her name to the city and county, although she never visited. We claim two presidents, Andrew Jackson and James K. Polk, as Mecklenburg residents. Dorothy Counts helped the city make its first steps toward racially integrated schools in the 1950s. These and many others are Mecklenburg People.

In the future C-M Story will profile many individuals, some well known today and some less celebrated. Please email your suggestions for future profile subjects to our staff.
