The database contains three types of entries: marriage, death, and other notices. Although the newspapers include entries of national and state interest, most occurred in Mecklenburg county or involved Mecklenburg residents. Marriage and death notices did not appear regularly and seem to include only the elite, the notorious or the sensational.

The notices are sorted by source date, then by last name.
