What Happened To Brooklyn?
Where Did The People Go?

Where did the people go?

When their homes were torn down,
where did all the Brooklyn residents go?

Many of the hundreds of Brooklyn families moved into white neighborhoods such as Belmont and Wesley Heights.
This led to a gradual change in the racial makeup of Charlotte's inner-city neighborhoods.

Many other families moved out Beatties Ford Road to new neighborhoods such as Northwood Estates,
Lincoln Heights, and Druid Hills.

Arthur Parks Sr.'s family, like many others,
lost their home to urban renewal.

For years, the Parks lived in Brooklyn at 1118 Hill St. When urban renewal took Hill St., the Parks bought a home in Lincoln Heights, a new neighborhood for black homeowners off Statesville Ave.
