The Lincoln Theatre, 408 E. 2nd St., was the oldest black movie theater in Charlotte. It was opened as the Rex in 1930 and became the Lincoln in 1933. The theater had a seating capacity of around 400 and continued to serve the community until 1961. The Lincoln had daily matinees and evening shows. Sunday nights featured live shows or midnight movies.

Lawyer, J. T. Sanders, is pictured here in front of the Brooklyn Drug & Sundries around 1910. Sanders, owner of several businesses including three drugstores, a hotel, a theater and a real estate business, was known as the "Colored Financier of Charlotte."
